Mish Mash. SCHOOL starts tomorrow?!?!

by Anne

So if you read this blog regularly, you might know that I'm heading back to school after completing my degree in June of 2007. That degree was in theatre (spelled the snobby way, deal with it, y'all) and now I'm getting certification to teach high school English.

THERE ARE NOT WORDS SUFFICIENT IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TO DESCRIBE HOW WEIRD IT FEELS TO KNOW THAT I'LL BE BACK AMONGST THE COLLEGIATE TOMORROW. I feel good about it but its weird. Tomorrow I have World Literature - post WW2, Contemporary Literature and Russian Literature in translation. OMG what if it wasn't in translation and I showed up to class and it was entirely in Russian? Hilarity. I'm not really looking forward to the Russian lit one because I've read like every Chekhov play (there really aren't that many) and several other works of Russian literature and they're all, well, depressing and grey (yup I spell that the snobby way too, I'm a prize). Well if you go to Buff State and you see a girl with red glasses wandering around lost and confused, just point her to the "Classroom building" (what a stupid name) and give her a reassuring pat on the head.

So I got a car. Well, sort of. It's not mine yet, its still getting ready to be mine. Its a red Pontiac Grand Prix. Its pretty sexy. And like guaranteed to be broken into. Whoops. Its pretty foxy.

Mama Peg and I watched 27 Dresses tonight and while it was cute and I thought Katherine Heigl was great, I don't generally watch romantic comedies anymore. Here's why: When I was like 16 I was totally into romantic comedies. I believed them completely, I got totally swept up by them, I felt sad when there appeared to be a HOT MINUTE when the lady and her dude might not get together. I hated the "other woman" or "disapproving parent" or "job in Tahiti" or whatever the external force was that was keeping them apart. However, these days I just find myself being committed to the story until the cheesy romantic ending. Then I check out and start thinking about other things. Am I cynical? Am I realistic? Am I bitter because James Marsden has never bought me a Blackberry? A little, sometimes and ABSOLUTELY.

Is it weird that I'm secretly terrified I'm going to develop a huge crush on some 18 year old freshman in one of my classes? That's how my life works, so it's all but a guarantee.

Well, here we go, onto the next chapter of life. Wooo. Hooo.

To all those going back to school too, good luck! Just think, because we're back in school that means time will FLY until training camp and preseason!!!!!!! Yay!!!

I'm really afraid if I see a Sabre in the next few weeks I'll be unable to avoid hugging them and telling them that I missed them. Oh well, such is life.

Um, I took a Spanish Literature in Translation class, that wasn't translated. THEN, the teach got pissed when I wanted to drop the class. Dude, I don't have 15 hours a day to spend translating every word on every page. How else am I supposed to read these books, Mr. You don't need to know Spanish for this class?

And even if you did,if you don't speak Spanish, the syntax would be all wacked out and it would take you forever to figure out the plot, never mind the character's underlying turmoil with his mother's paella.

Cougar! I have a lot of freshmen in my classes (I don't know why??) so I'm in your boat.

I almost went to Buff State, but I really didn't want to. Everything just kind of fell into place and ended up by some miracle attending NU. Good luck with your classes and all. Urgh, summer, I miss it already!
