I mean just when I thought I couldn't love Jaroslav "Pigeon" Spacek any more than I already (and inexplicably) do, he brings about this
DELIGHT.
Basically, the most impactful player of the game as decided by the players gets to keep this pigeon in their locker as a symbol of their success.
They're keeping track of the number of times each player gets the pigeon and the player who earned it the most times gets to keep it over the summer.
Apparently in Chicago they use a tomahawk, which, ya know has something to do with their team name.
The Sabres decide to pick up a dead bird on eBay and stick logo pins in it AND IT HAS ITS OWN COOP FOR WHEN THEY TRAVEL.
THAT'S HOW WE ROLL IN BUFFALO. DON'T HATE, APPRECIATE.
